The Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, Pediatric Dentistry Clinic is seeking a part-time Dental Assistant I to join us.
The Dental Assistant I provides chair side assistance to doctoral dental students, post-doctoral students and faculty in a teaching clinic.
Job Accountabilities:
Provides chair side assistance to doctoral dental students, post-doctoral students and faculty in a teaching clinic.
Sets up clinic and keeps disposable materials and medicaments in adequate supply for daily operation. Maintains a clean and orderly clinic at all times. Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
Must translate English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
Assists students in collecting patient history, charting and treatment planning.
Prepares treatment area for patients. Prepares and mixes materials. Preps patient. Assists with procedures. Monitors patient for complications.
Exposes and processes patient x-rays.
May assist with patient registration, appointment scheduling, billing, filing and other related clerical support duties as required.
Assists with the supervision of visiting dental assisting students. Reports student activities and assists in evaluating student progress.
Maintains impressions, study models and various other dental appliances.
May assist with the maintenance of an ongoing patient recall system.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Education: Specialized/technical training
Minimum Experience: 6 - 12 months
Minimum Field of Expertise: CDA (Graduate of accredited dental assisting program). Current California X-ray License. Effective communication skills to interact with faculty, students, staff and patients.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education: Preferred Experience: 1 year
Preferred Field of Expertise: Prefer RDA (Registered Dental Assistant). Two years chairside experience directly related to clinic specialization. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
