CBS Radio seeks a Daypart Manager for WNEW, an FM all news radio station in Washington, DC. This is a hands-on supervisory position that spans every aspect of on-air programming and newsroom operations during assigned shift. The Daypart Manager is responsible for story selection and scheduling, editorial direction, and overall sound of station during assigned shift.

Some other duties include, but are not limited to:

• Monitors incoming news sources; sets the news agenda for their assigned daypart; coordinates reporter assignments and all newsgathering functions as determined by the Program and News Directors

• Directs breaking news coverage and special events under the supervision of the Program and News Director

• Supervises news anchors, reporters, and newsroom support staff on assigned shift

• Reviews and approves all broadcast material prior to air, edits audio and news copy as warranted, and writes breaking news stories when necessary

• Contributes daily to the station’s website and social media platforms

• Plans future coverage with other Daypart Managers and the News Director, and spearheads special projects as assigned by the Program Director

• Enforces CBS standards and policies and FCC regulations

Required Skills/Experience
• Strong journalistic instincts

• Well versed on current events and issues important to the residents of Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC

• Familiarity with the geography, people, politics, and sensibilities of the communities we serve

• Able to quickly discern what is most important AND what is most interesting to our listeners

• Thrives under constant deadline pressure and can handle multiple, often conflicting situations regularly

• Thorough knowledge of digital newsgathering and audio-editing systems
• Up to date on FCC regulations and broadcast standards

• Three years experience as a News Editor or Producer of a news driven talk show preferred

• Recent college graduates or those with relevant non-radio experience (online journalists, TV news producers, etc.) with a strong drive to succeed, willingness to learn, and able to demonstrate all the requisite skills for the position will also be considered
