Description General Summary: Responsible for the strategic planning, administration and operation of all clinical research activities in the Academics Division including those related to Ochsner Cancer Institute and the Heart and Vascular Clinical Trials. Works collaboratively with the Manager and Directors of these areas to establish research priorities and strategic imperatives and to trouble-shoot problem areas. Acts as a resource for clinical principal investigators in matters related to research regulation and clinical/medical feasibility of research studies. Communicates and interprets Organizational and Division mission, goals and objectives to all areas of responsibility. Provides leadership and direction in the planning, implementation, and ongoing improvement of all areas of responsibility. Demonstrates actions consistent with Ochsner’s Expectations as duties are performed on a daily basis. Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience and Training An M.D. or a Ph.D. in Life/Health Sciences or related fields. A minimum of ten years of direct experience in developing research models and executing research studies. Proven record of establishing productive collaborations, publishing research results and obtaining extramural funds to support research programs. A minimum of ten years of demonstrated leadership and/or management, preferably in the area of biomedical research. Experience in clinical research preferred. Other Qualifications:
Must manage complex work and multiple tasks professionally and efficiently. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates a capacity to relate to individuals at various levels across and external to the organization to include: business and community leaders, physicians, representatives of regulatory agencies, and departmental staff. Is self-directed and motivated, demonstrating sound judgement in complex situations and in the resolution of conflict.
