De Marillac Academy seeks a highly motivated, experienced, and mission-centered individual to lead our Development team. De Marillac provides a private, tuition-free education that focuses on academic excellence in a values-based environment. Co-sponsored by the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers, De Marillac offers a Catholic school education to low-income students from all faith and cultural backgrounds in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. In 2001, De Marillac opened with a class of 19 sixth graders. Today De Marillac serves 116 fourth through eighth grade students, 207 alumni, and 225 families in our school and our unique wrap around clinical and family support program.
Reporting to the President, the Director of Annual Giving supervises the Event and Communications Manager and the Database Assistant, and works closely with the Vice President for Mission Advancement. The Director of Annual Giving oversees a comprehensive fund development program in support of a $3.3 million annual budget, 95% of which is funded by individual donors, foundations, and corporations. A wide range of administrative and executive tasks constitutes the main functions of the position. The role requires the ability to balance ongoing, operational and team leadership along with strategic benefactor and external relations.
This professional will steward De Marillac’s existing base of support, expand the base to new constituencies, and also lead the daily oversight of the school’s Development activities. In a collaborative environment, this person will support De Marillac’s President, Volunteer Development Council, and development colleagues to continue to grow the school’s annual fund, special events, affinity groups, communications, and long-term endowment goals. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following traits: relevant experience; excellent relationship-building capabilities; experience in fundraising and/or program administration; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; flexibility; comfort with a variety of tasks; and a strong sense of humor. Proficiency with the Raiser’s Edge software is highly desirable. At least ten years of comparable experience is preferred.
