The Associate Media Investment Director is the leader of the assigned broadcast account and partners closely with the Media Strategy team and with the client to assure their business is being proactively managed through smart and effective media buying and campaign management. The person in this role manages the account from a broadcast investment perspective and supervises a team of media investment buyers.

  • Proactively monitor key campaign metrics (e.g., call volume, budgets, cost pers, clearance levels) against campaign objectives and assure that buys are being managed on an ongoing basis to optimize performance
  • Lead, manage and monitor media activities relating to assigned accounts to ensure continuous strategic thinking and the presentation of business building & value added ideas
  • Work closely with Media Strategy team to forecast clients’ long term needs & develop management strategies to ensure that they are met
  • Keep well informed in order to anticipate issues / opportunities
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with sales representatives in order to facilitate the development of media buying strategies that will improve cost efficiencies, clearances and results
  • Negotiate with stations on client’s behalf to secure optimal schedule for campaigns
  • Draw results conclusions and put daily interpretation of results into buy management actions
  • Ensure execution of buy management schedule revisions
  • Proactively think of ways to grow and improve the clients business
  • Stay abreast of marketplace conditions and the related impact on your brand, and provide clients with marketplace condition reports, offering strategic and relevant insights
  • Evaluate project requests & determine how to most effectively proceed in order to meet client needs, manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Work closely with the junior members of the buying team to ensure that their skills are developing to effectively serve client’s needs, they understand the business/marketing ramifications of media performance and that they are being properly trained & highly motivated to develop their media skills
  • Work closely with Business Systems and Operations department to ensure accuracy and enhancements to the MediaOcean tracking system
  • Provide Media Strategy teams and clients with agency POV’s on potential new media opportunities
  • Participate in national and spot upfront negotiations
  • Take an active role in the general management of the media investment department and contribute to the Agency in identifying best practices, marketplace observations, and new opportunities

  • Minimum of seven years of relevant media experience, with experience buying for both local and national markets
  • Experience in dealing directly with senior clients and agency management
  • Experience and success supervising a team; training and delegating effectively
  • Thorough understanding of direct marketing and media fundamentals
  • Proven negotiating skills and established relationships with the sales rep community
  • Ability to represent the client/agency in negotiations, client meetings and on conference calls
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to media strategies
  • Strong interpersonal skills that encourage team cooperation, promote enthusiasm, and motivate strategic thinking
  • Complete understanding and ability to evaluate budgets/results data effectively
  • Ability to monitor/evaluate media environment for opportunities
  • Decisive and effective problem-solving ability
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Computer proficiency; knowledge of Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the primary media research tools
  • Have a complete working knowledge of media tracking systems and how it is used for internal processes such as billing, buying, tracking and reporting (MediaBank/MediaOcean a strong plus!)
  • Knowledge base of media cost tools, such as, SQAD and NetCost
  • Strong knowledge of advanced buying platforms such as Google and Admira
  • Understanding of the overall broadcast upfront process and negotiations
