The Phlebotomist I/ II maintains current professional knowledge and skills to independently perform dermal puncture and
venipuncture on all age groups (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric). The employee will maintain competencies in
a variety of special collections as defined by checklist. The employee is responsible for accurately identifying the patient and
specimen and collecting specimens of high quality in an efficient manner consistent with laboratory and hospital policy.
Incumbent must also meet the departmental requirement of continuing education by attaining a minimum of 6-8 hours per year.
Requirements For Phlebotomist I:
High School Diploma or GED. 6 months full-time equivalent general phlebotomy experience. Clinical internship including minimum of 100 venipunctures preferred. PBT (ASCP) preferred. Demonstrated ability to use computers (email, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.). Able to read, write, and speak basic English. Training Program/Course Phlebotomy preferred.
Requirements For Phlebotomist II:
High School Diploma or GED. 18 months full-time equivalent general phlebotomy. 1-2 years hospital phlebotomy preferred. PBT(ASCP), Phlebotomy Technician(ASCP), or RMA(Registered Medical Assistant)certification also acceptable. Demonstrated ability to use computers (email, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.). Able to read, write, and speak basic English. Training Program/Course Phlebotomy preferred.
