Red Hat is seeking a Software Applications Engineer for its IT End User Computing Experience team. This is a multi faceted position centered around the delivery of our internal RHEL based desktop builds and other internal employee-facing web based applications. Primary job responsibilities
This position is the highest tier of end user desktop support and is the last point of escalation for our internal Service Desk and Regional IT teams. In addition to support, this position is responsible for the development and delivery of our RHEL based desktop. This includes the development, QA, and rollout of a suite of RPMs, maintenance of our master RHEL desktop images and cobbler environment as well as ownership of our internal Red Hat Satellite server. This person also serves as the service owner for many web based applications ranging from a simple email PDF conversion app to the Etherpad collaborative editing application. Required skills Required Skills & Experience:
Combined 3+ years of experience in System Administration and/or Software Engineering
Demonstrates proficiency at receiving inputs from many directions, disseminating information to many audiences, and documenting the problem, resolution, and future actions for the benefit of the team.
Ability to resolve a wide range of issues including networking, database, and software development as well as a desire to contribute to custom tooling for streamlining processes.
Following documented processes and standards.
Creating documentation for new processes or existing processes that have not been previously documented.
Auditing existing documentation as needed to ensure it is current and complete.
Communication of all documentation changes to all parties involved to prevent service disruptions
Frameworks: Django, Node.js
Experience supporting applications using: MySQL / Mongo DB / Oracle
Web/Application Servers: Apache / JBoss / Tomcat / nginx
Build Systems and Package Management: RPM / Koji (brew) / Maven / Make
Configuration Management: Puppet
Understanding of and experience using version control. GIT is the preferred SCM system.
Operating Systems: Linux, RHEL/Fedora strongly preferred, prefer candidate with cross platform experience with Windows/Mac
Administering a virtualized environment (XEN / KVM) --------------------------------------- Secondary Skills:
Experience with configuring and troubleshooting SELinux.
Responding to service incidents managed via a queue.
Exposure to the Open Source community with possible contributions (bug reports / patches).
Experience managing systems using Red Hat Satellite or IBM Tivoli Endpoint Manager
Experience with Red Hat Directory Server / Active Directory / OpenLDAP
Experience using enterprise monitoring solutions such as Zenoss, Nagios, or Munin.
Experience building out QA test plans before production release.
Excellent time management skills in balancing support and development.
