St. John Hospital and Medical Center (SJH&MC), a 772-bed teaching hospital in Detroit, has long been known for its excellence in medical care. SJH&MC was named as a Blue Distinction Center in both cardiovascular and orthopedic care by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Has 24 hour accountability for the clinical, service, and financial outcomes of a designated patient care unit(s). Ensures the effective integration of support services into the unit-based care delivery process. Is a member of the Medical Center management team, and participates in hospital-wide initiatives as indicated, overall leadership for the Division of Patient Care Services, and advancement of the profession of nursing. Ensures staff competencies, practice patterns, and care coordination. Establishes and maintains a culture centered on service excellence and patient safety.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, with Bachelor's degree preferred.
State of Michigan Registered Nurse licensure
Certification as CCM, CPUR, or CMAC preferred
Three years recent clinical experience
One year experience required in case management, utilization or discharge planning.
Analytical skills necessary to solve technical, clinical, administrative and managerial challenges
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to plan and develop training programs to promote development and growth of staff
The ability to develop written policies and procedures and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors
The ability to see the "whole" of the organization and how the service of the unit fits into the broader perspective
Excellent customer service skills
Knowledge of budget process
Hiring and performance management skills
Strong ability to meet deadlines and commitments in a fast paced acute care environment
