Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
Earned associate degree in Child Development Technology preferred
Be dependable and flexible in working hours
Have an interest in and concern for children
Have a positive attitude and demonstrate appropriate behavior in language and conduct
Responsibilities:
To supervise and care for infants and toddlers and work with other childcare attendants and child development instructors in providing supervision and instructional learning activities for childcare students. The childcare attendant will report to the child development technology instructors.
The College:
In 1928 the Legislature of the State of Mississippi adopted the first basic laws for the organization and operation of the Mississippi public junior colleges. East Central Community College opened its doors to a freshman class of 20 students for the first regular session in September 1928. The college buildings were a part of the Newton County Agricultural High School, which had been organized in 1914. The upper high school grades which comprised the Newton
County Agricultural High School were a part of the college until 1958 when they were moved to the Decatur Attendance Center. In March 1939, East Central Community College was first accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is currently accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Associate Degree. East Central Community College is a member of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and the American Association of Community Colleges. Degrees or certificates are granted upon completion of program requirements. Enrollment, including part-time students, exceeds 2,435 students each term. Evening courses and summer programs are offered throughout the five-county support district.
The District:
Decatur, the county seat of Newton County since 1835, is located on Highway 15 in East Central Mississippi in the center of Newton County, 25 miles west of Meridian and 70 miles east of Jackson. Newton County was once a part of the Choctaw Indian Territory and derived its name from Sir Issac Newton, the great scientist and philosopher. Decatur was named for the naval hero Commodore Stephen Decatur. The town's population is 1,400.
The college operates the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Vocational-Technical Center located in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
Neshoba County was established in 1833 and Philadelphia was incorporated in 1906. Philadelphia has a population of 7,500.
East Central Community College is supported by five counties: Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott, and Winston counties.

To supervise infants and toddlers and work with the other childcare attendants
and child development instructors in providing care, supervision and instructional learning activities for students. The childcare attendant will report to the child development technology instructors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct himself/herself so as to always bring credit to the college and to the community;
2. Assist infants/toddlers and students during the day;
3. Assist in the preparation and distribution of snacks;
4. Monitor infants/toddlers at all times;
5. Assist with housekeeping;
6. Wash, dry, and fold clothes;
7. Prepare infants/toddlers learning activities;
8. Assist in toileting toddlers;
9. Change and wash/dry soiled clothing and nap blankets;
10. Cordially greet parent/guardian and release each child to their parent/guardian or designated person;
11. Assist students and faculty in the planning and implementation of instructional materials;
12. Communicate and work effectively with parents/guardians;
13. Assist with the feeding of the children;
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
