Under general supervision, assists the Head Start Social Services/Parental Involvement CoordinatorII in the daily activities related to the Social Services/Parental Involvement. Components of Head Start. and implements the recruitment process for Head Start children. Work involves providing training for Head Start parents and establishing partnership agreements with families frequently requiring translation between English and Spanish. Performs routine clerical duties, requiring knowledge of policy and procedures in the County Head Start program, and technical work in driving a van or bus in support of program activities. Work involves assisting program coordinator in the preparation of various forms, applications and charts, including preparing copies; and in contact with parents and various service agencies via telephone or during visitations. Work also involves transporting programs children, staff or parents, as necessary, to various meetings, appointments and between the education center and children's homes. Employee must exercise some independent judgment in completion of assigned tasks. Employee must also exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contacts with parents.

Examples of Duties:
Assists Social Services/Parental Involvement Coordinator by implementing the recruitment process of Head Start children; facilitates the orientation process for parents; encourages, empowers and supports parents in Head Start, community programs and other resources. Assists Social Services/Parental Involvement Coordinator by transcribing information onto forms, charts, applications, various card records and other materials from rough draft or detailed instructions; prepares copies and collates such documents. Contacts parents or service agencies connected to program via telephone, at request of Head Start Social Services/Parent Involvement Coordinator, to relay messages or make inquiries; contacts parents to inquire about absenteeism of client children, as requested. Drives a van or bus to transport client children between homes and education center, and to outside activities related to the Head Start program, such as filed trips or dental appointments; supervises and ensures safety of client children on van or bus, ensuring each child is delivered to proper site and/or to proper responsible adult. Drives van to transport staff or parents between homes and education center, to meetings, workshops, etc.; may transport documents and materials between program offices and other agencies, County offices, etc. Assists in distribution of materials and supplies. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS May assume duties of Teacher Assistant or Teacher, assisting in carrying out prescribed education activities for an assigned group of client children, assists in providing care and protection for the children, in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards. May accompany program officials on visits to homes of client families, providing routine clerical assistance in collecting and collating information provided. Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, three years experience working with preschool children and their families, a back ground in the filed of Social Services/Parental Involvement services or an equivalent combination of training and experience. SPECIAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Possession of a Class B commercial driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina.
Must be able to communicate proficiently in Spanish both verbally and in writing.
