The Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated individual that is eager to learn and pursue cutting edge research that exploits viruses both to identify critical tumor targets and develop novel viral-based cancer therapies. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills and assist with research to develop viruses that selectively kill tumor cells and which can be targeted to tumor cells and the associated vasculature.
Research and lab responsibilities may include:
Extensive mammalian cell culture work
Standard molecular biology techniques ( PCR , gel electrophoresis, cloning, DNA / RNA purification)
Standard virology techniques (virus preparation, titering, infections, etc.)
DNA / RNA /protein isolation from culture
Protein work (Western blots, ELISA , etc)
Software based DNA sequence analysis
Database management and general maintenance of the laboratory
Education: Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field.
Experience: A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in a research laboratory is required. Candidates should have experience in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques. Experience with virology techniques is a plus. Additionally, while previous mouse work is not a requirement, applicants should be willing to learn and assist in mouse studies.
Special Requirements: Candidates must have excellent record-keeping as well as organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, and be able to work both autonomously and within a small group. The ability to work a flexible schedule may be necessary at times.
