UNIVERSITY CHRISTIAN CHURCHJOB DESCRIPTION REVISION DATE: April 4, 2012 JOB TITLE: Custodian REPORTS TO: Lead Custodian JOB SUMMARY: Keep church buildings and premises in clean, orderly and safe condition. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Custodial * Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming.* Gather and empty trash. * Service, clean, and supply restrooms.* Clean windows and mirrors.* Dust furniture, walls, machines and equipment.* Mix water and detergents or acids in containers according to directions to prepare cleaning fluids. * Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.* Strip, seal and polish floors.* Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestations.* Move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks/dollies. * Set up, arrange and remove tables, chairs, ladders and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events. * Remove snow and debris from building entrances, sidewalks and covered driveway. Facility Management * Monitor building security and safety be performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical equipment and/or appliances to ensure that hazards are not created.* Assist with parking management by closing and opening parking lots as scheduled and directing parking flow for special events. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: * Assist with the church's energy conservation practices by turning off unneeded lights and equipment; identifying unoccupied areas of the building where heating and cooling can be shut down; and reporting leaking faucets, pipes and sprinklers. * Make minor adjustments or repairs to cleaning equipment. * Upon request, assist the building maintenance superintendent with jobs that cannot be done by one individual.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school education or equivalent. Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Organized and able to work independently. Able to work well with people. Flexible and tolerable of interruptions. General or specialized knowledge of cleaning equipment and methods desirable. Prior experience as a custodian or institutional housekeeper desirable.HOURS: Forty hours per week. Occasional need for additional hours during periods of heavy activity within the church. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform strenuous work requiring lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping and climbing. Must have sufficient strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to move and carry objects weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
