JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): The laboratoty phlebotomist performs phlebotomy on patients of all ages served by the hospital. In addition, he or she also processses specimens for testing. The laboratory phlebotomist also uses the laboratory information system to enter testing, determine medical necessity and look up results and direct reports to the appropriate entities.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE : High school diploma or GED preferred. Clinical knowledge of physiology and anatomy preferred. Previous experience as a clinical phlebotomist preferred.
EDUCATION : Training in an accredited program of phlebotomy preferred. Minimum of 6 college credit hours in clinical education such as medical technology, nursing etc. or equivalent level of experience (1 year) preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY : Certification by a national certifying agency for phlebotomy preferred. Valid Montana driver's license required.
Aptitudes : *Must demonstrate exceptional customer service, including telephone etiquette and communication skills regardless of situation encountered. *Must demonstrate organizational skills, prioritization to deliver optimum patient care and be able to multitask. Must be able to demonstrate judgment regarding patient specimen collection and be able to function independently. *Must demonstrate teamwork aptitude to deliver quality care.
Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
Rotating Shifts may be required.
