Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations
Looking for a highly motivated technically focused software development resource manager to lead a group of 150+ embedded developers and coordinate work with two large international and geographically diverse development teams. The group’s charter is to design and develop the next generation of Public Safety portable and mobile subscribers. The candidate will be actively overseeing all phases of the software development lifecycle including requirements, interface design, implementation, and testing. They will supervise the activities and performance of the development team and are responsible for the overall program success in meeting internal and external project and quality goals.
The candidate must be a self-starter and be able to work without being given detailed directions.
The successful candidate is a great people manager, technical domain expert and well versed in all aspects of software product development. He or she has a track record of successfully leading highly skilled engineering teams and delivering complex projects. A strong technical background in embedded systems and software development methodologies is required.
The candidate will also be required to communicate and present status and other updates related to the project to senior management at various forums.
Additional scope of responsibilities include (but not limited to):
o Work with product and program management to coordinate the mapping of feature requirements into product releases that optimize the productivity of the engineering staff.
o Be comfortable identifying and minimizing risk in an environment where development must often begin before requirements are fully specified.
o Manage and optimize resources on multiple simultaneous projects across multiple design centers.
o Work with all design center leads to drive continuous productivity and quality improvements in the overall development process.
o Mentoring and providing growth opportunities for your team members
o Instilling customer focus for the team and into the products
o Building strong partnerships across remote SW design centers and System Engineering along with the Electrical and Mechanical teams.
Minimum 12+ year’s applicable experience in software engineering and management
Knowledge of both high level architecture/prototype design and tactical product development.
Ability to work in varying strategic and tactical situations and be comfortable discussing both high level requirements and implementation details.
Self-motivated, quality driven, customer focused, problem solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in selecting and managing both waterfall and agile develop processes based upon specific project requirements.
Knowledge of software modeling (UML), C/C++, and component based development a plus.
This person will need to excel in a fast paced dynamic environment where short term iterative agile projects are interleaved with longer term waterfall oriented projects.

Ability to quickly understand both business and technical concepts
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science preferred or equivalent experience
