Perform experiments in thin film fabrication, process optimization, and thin film development; assist in developing and promoting new research initiatives with existing and prospective commercial and government clients; investigate approaches to address emerging technology needs including nano-engineering materials, ultra-hard materials energy storage and materials for sensors; plan, promote and execute the development of crosscutting chemical and physical techniques to meet program development goals in nanotechnology, precursor chemistries for vacuum based processes and ultra-hard materials; prepare research plans, develop proposals to government agencies and commercial companies and participate in technical and promotional seminars.
    Requires a PhD degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics with at least a 3.5 GPA. Must have experience with coating and surface treatment processes such as magnetron sputtering, cathodic arc. and/or plasma spray; must have knowledge of thin film characterization techniques and ability to interpret data from these tools; must have knowledge of and/or experience with any of the following: thin film sensors smart materials thin film batteries, power generation materials, oil and gas materials and gas turbine materials. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
