EMCORE offers a broad portfolio of compound semiconductor-based products for the telecom, CATV, satellite communications, video transport, defense & homeland security and solar power markets. Our two primary operating segments are Fiber Optics and Solar Photovoltaics. EMCORE Fiber Optics provides optical components, subsystems and systems that enable the transmission of video, voice, and data over high-capacity fiber optic links. EMCORE Solar Photovoltaics provides products based on its high-efficiency Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) solar cells for both space and terrestrial solar power applications.

Basic Scope/Purpose
Manufacturing: Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products. Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

Test: Designs, develops, and implements cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting systems and equipment. Prepares test and diagnostic programs, designs test fixtures and equipment, and completes specifications and procedures for new products. Plans the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices.

Process: Develops new or modified process formulations, defines processing or handling equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of semiconductors. Reviews product requirements with design staff to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications. May conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts and approaches in the processing or development of new or improved processes.
Job Complexity: Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has internal and some external contacts.

Supervision: Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

Essential Functions
Reviews and understands product request from customer and follows conceptual design to meet customer requirements.
Analyzes projects/proposals to determine feasibility, producibility, cost and production time, and discusses results with engineers and other personnel.
Evaluates product design for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards, and specifications.
Coordinates design, production, testing and related activities across different areas/work centers to enable manufacturing.
Consults with project personnel and others to provide technical assistance and information.
May analyze test data and provides test reports.
May maintain test equipment and software.
Deploys the Quality Management System as it applies to the scope of work.

Secondary Functions
Contributes to the mentoring and supervision of other engineers, technicians and operators.
Travel as required.
Authority to stop any process that threatens the well being of any Emcore employee.
Authority to initiate Corrective Action when a nonconformance is identified and stop the process when a nonconformance is found.
Other appropriate activities as assigned.

Education & Experience
BS/BA Degree, EE preferred.
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
