This position is located in the Idaho Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Academy.
PLEASE NOTE: Successful applicants will be required to complete a background investigation and polygraph examination, which includes drug screening. Please see the Idaho State Police drug policy at the end of this announcement.
Develop, implement, and coordinate training programs for basic academy recruit training
Assess and coordinate training needs with other law enforcement and police training personnel
Develop objectives and design courses to meet standards established by the POST Academy
Research and locate new training materials and training aides
Coordinate development and scheduling of POST and basic law enforcement programs insuring certification of instructors and accreditation for officers
Instruct classes in area or areas of expertise
Conduct curriculum review committee meetings
Assist in certifying officers in use of firearms and other requirements to meet POST standards
Supervise day-to-day recruit activities
Investigate violations of POST standards
Evaluate all phases of basic recruit officer training and prepare written documentation of recruit performance
Minimum Qualifications for this Opening:
Certified law enforcement officer with patrol experience and certification, or equivalent
Good knowledge of training programs used to train law enforcement officers
Experience presenting training to adult groups in structured learning situations including presenting formal police classroom training
Experience performing needs assessments, developing training objectives, designing and developing coursework to address those needs and objectives, and evaluating the training
Experience researching and analyzing law enforcement training material for applicability in training programs
Possess a valid driver's license
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, education, or similar degree from an accredited college or university

Ever used or possessed LSD, PCP, opiates (e.g. heroin, etc.), methamphetamine, cocaine, or designer drugs (e.g. ecstasy, synthetic cathinones, etc.);
Used or possessed within the 5 year period preceding application for ISP employment: marijuana, inhalants (huffing), anabolic steroids, hallucinogens (psilocybin mushrooms), or synthetic cannabinoids (e.g. spice, K2, etc.);
On any occasion illegally manufactured or delivered a controlled substance;
Used any illegal drug while employed in any law enforcement or prosecutorial agency;
Been found guilty by a court or jury of driving under the influence of intoxicants within the 5 year period preceding application for ISP employment;
Abused prescription drugs (case by case analysis).
Other involvement with illegal drugs may be a disqualifier. The Colonel of the Idaho State Police has the authority to make all final hiring decisions.
At the discretion of the appointing authority, compensatory time off may be provided in lieu of overtime cash compensation.
