Examines tax returns for completeness, accuracy and compliance with state tax laws. Auditing work is performed in accordance with statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the lawful and timely completion of tax returns. Serves a probationary period of one year after which time permanent status may be awarded.
How to Apply: This job requires a written examination (W) . The same examination is used for Tax Audit Clerk (This title may not be open). YOU MUST APPLY FOR EACH TITLE SEPARATELY. YOU MUST APPLY PRIOR TO TESTING. You only need to take the test once to be scored for the titles for which you have applied. No testing appointment is necessary.
If you previously (within the past 6 months) took this test, you do not have to re-test. However, if you choose not to re-test, you should contact us so that your test score can be applied to the (test title). APPLY ONLINE. You may apply from any internet connected computer. Do not take a copy of the online application to the test center. DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU CAN TEST WITHIN 90 DAYS OR BY THE FINAL FILING DATE. Online applicants who do not test within 90 days or by the final filing date, whichever is less, will be rejected.
If you must use a paper application due to disability or other valid reason, please call our office for special instructions. Applicants using a paper application must present a completed application form at the test site. Positive identification is required. There is a 90 day re-test waiting period. Caution: Any time you re-test your new score will replace any previous test score.

Graduation from a standard four year high school or the equivalent, including completion of a bookkeeping or accounting course in a secondary, vocational, or business schools.
Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience at the State Tax Division, or three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in bookkeeping or a closely related position where accurate mathematical computations, record keeping, and some public contact were primary duties.
Substitution: Successful completion of a course of study in a regionally accredited college or university which included three semester hours of math or accounting may substitute for the experience as described above on a year-for-year basis. Semester hours must be verified by transcript.
