Under the general direction of the Dir, RMU and the direct supervision of the Supervisor, RMU Therapies and within established departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Administers occupational therapy patient care programs, as planned with and directed by the referring/supervising Occupational Therapist. • Assists the referring Occupational Therapist when performing tests, evaluations and/or complex treatment procedures, whenever necessary. • Follows established departmental procedures and observes safety precautions in the application of modalities. • Utilizes principles and standard practices of Occupational Therapy. • Confers on a regular basis with the Supervising/Referring Occupational Therapist in order to progress the patient’s program effectively. Documents the patient’s progress in the patient’s medical record in accordance with departmental procedure. In collaboration with the referring Occupational Therapist, develops and implements appropriate patient discharge plan including but not limited to: home exercise programs, equipment, patient/family education, referral to community services. Writes formal, progress and/or discharge summary notes in collaboration with and co-signature of supervising/referring therapist to physicians or Allied Health Agencies/Professionals on a timely basis. Communicates regularly with physicians, nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members, individually, and through team meetings to ensure efficient coordination of the overall health care plan.
Education: Required, Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy from a school approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Experience: Required, registered or eligible for registry by the State of New Hampshire Board of Registration in Medicine. CPR certified.
