Job Description:

This position can be a Salary Grade E05 or E06 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

The Platform Integration Department leads mechanical design, development and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development & site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration and production support. Project and Integrated Product Teamwork and/or leadership are important aspects of roles reporting into this department, requiring strong verbal and written communication skills and project management skills. Individuals will need to interface with various disciplines including Electrical Engineers, Materials Engineers, Structural Analysts, Project Leads, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain.

The role of the Platform Integration Requirements and Architecture Section is to be the "go-to" resource for best practices for Systems and Hardware requirements development within the Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED). As a Principal/ Senior Principal Systems Engineer you will:

Flow down, allocate, derive, manage and verify mechanical hardware requirements that reflect the architecture concepts and the system level requirements.

Working in concert with design teams, take a lead role in developing and evaluating hardware architectures that best align with the requirements for integrated defense systems (eg. sensor, communication, command, control, power, etc.).

Effectively advocate the mechanical hardware engineering perspective when working within a design team environment that includes systems and electrical engineers.

Develop/Refine requirement process materials for furthering the efficiency effectiveness and capability of the MED requirements flow down process.
Required Skills:

10 to 15+ years of broad-based engineering experience in the design, development, manufacture, test and integration of hardware.

Experience (10 to 15+ years) with, and understanding of, DoD hardware and environmental requirements, standards and processes.

Experience (10 to 15+ years) with the interplay of performance, manufacturability and reliability requirements in devising functional hardware architecture.

10 to 15+ years experience working in a team environment and with other engineering disciplines such as Electrical, Materials, Systems, Test, Software, Manufacturing, and Supplier engineers.

Leadership experience (10 to 15+ years) with a task or project of 5 or more teammates
Desired Skills:

Experience with complex medium and large-scale physical systems. Candidate will have a working knowledge of physical systems such as: design, structural mechanics, materials, dynamics, thermodynamics and mechanical controls.

Demonstrated ability to make inputs to technology acquisition planning for internal and external technology development

Front line leadership experience

Experience as a lead hardware design engineer with development, design and project level responsibility on systems coupled with experience through manufacturing and deployment cycles.

Experience with DoD and U.S. Government Engineering proposals and bidding requirements.

Experience with Radar and Military electronics design is desirable.

Advanced degree a plus
Well established written and verbal communication skills.
Required Education (including Major):

Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Engineering; Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace preferred.
