The College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University is currently seeking a Systems Support Specialist I or II who will assist the Training Technology Coordinator with updating and maintaining the learning systems that support the Child Welfare Research & Training Project.
This position will help maintain the Linux servers that support the delivery of learning management system, webinars, and related services to the Iowa Department of Human Services. Responsibilities include installing, updating, and maintaining servers (software), customizing existing open source software as needed, web site maintenance, and working with the training team on bug reports and customization projects.
In addition to the above listed duties, the Systems Support Specialist II will be expected to work at a higher level of autonomy, and will be assigned to manage special projects.
The successful candidate will have the ability to analyze software requirement specifications and apply critical thinking to solve programming problems. The candidate will have the ability to work independently, but remain flexible when priorities are changed with little notice. In addition, the candidate will have excellent organizational and written communication skills.
Systems Support Specialist I: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, management information systems, or closely related field and related experience OR a combination of education and related experience totaling more than 4 years.
Systems Support Specialist II: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, management information systems, or closely related field and one year related experience OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 5 years.
Experience with MySQL and Apache.
Experience working on open source projects and using Git to manage projects.
Experience with computer networks and security.
Experience with Moodle, Wordpress or BigBlueButton.
Additional year of related experience.
Minimum $30,622; commensurate with qualifications
