Located in The Study, Academic Enhancement (AE) is a centralized resource available to all UK students, staff, and faculty, across all colleges and majors. Beginning fall 2011, AE's Academic Prep Program (APP) will be offering supplemental workshops in reading, writing, and mathematics. Each workshop will be facilitated by one AE educator and one AE peer educator.

Peer Educators for the APP course for reading, UK 100 Reading Workshop, will work with students to develop reading skills like selecting the main idea, critical reading, and taking notes while reading. After brief lessons provided by the course instructor, students work independently and in small groups to apply strategies to reading assignments that are being used in their other classes as well as supplemental reading materials provided by the APP instructor and APP Peer Educator.

Peer educators work closely with instructors to develop course syllabi, create innovative assignments, provide course instruction and facilitation, and work closely with students both one-on-one and in small groups. Peer instructors may be involved in various aspects of course administration, including scheduling, information tracking, reporting, grading, etc. Peer instructors are expected to guide students to discover answers to questions, and never do work for students or give answers.

We are seeking UK students who have learned and are comfortable with material in one or more of the three areas and who enjoy working with their peers. Additionally, we are seeking UK students who are comfortable in a leadership role, as well as capable of working independently on more than one task at a time. We are looking for outgoing individuals who have a passion for undergraduate education and are interested in contributing to these courses their own past experiences and knowledge. Note that the peer instructor position is a professional position and each peer instructor is expected to adhere to the policies outlined in the Staff Resource Manual and will be required to meet with their Student Program Coordinator for Performance Evaluations and attend Professional Development sessions.

Because the Peer Educator position is a professional position, it includes responsibilities beyond working regular shifts. Undergraduate AE staff are also required to attend professional development sessions, Performance Evaluations, regular team meetings, and promotional activities.

NOTE: A complete application includes:
- submitting the online application
- submitting transcripts (unofficial from myUK is acceptable - please attach to this application)
