Primary Responsibility

*The following is a list of the basic duties of this position:

Operate the inmate library; create newsletters for inmates and volunteers; assist inmates in the selection of appropriate reading materials; schedule inmate activities; prepare reports as directed; and work with inmates while conducting programs

*Work with a specialized population, to observe and remain in control of the environment, and to meet required deadlines

*Reports to the Programs Coordinator

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:

*Conduct recreational activities for the inmates within the Detention Facility
*Assist inmates with activities in library
*Telephone and two-way radio
*Typing/computer word processing
*Gather inmates for scheduled programs
*Assist with production of the Inmate Newsletter
*Catalogs, stores, issues, and receives library materials including: Books, Tapes, Periodicals: Includes maintaining accurate records of all library materials
*Thoroughly checks materials before they are shelved
*Schedule, photocopy, and distribute weekly inmates schedule
*Prepare books and other reading materials to extend their use and expand on the existing collections
*Conduct recreational and educational programs
*Solicit and collect donated books and other reading materials
*Provides writing materials, or photocopy services to inmates requiring these
*Ensures inmates in administrative and disciplinary segregation receive access to reading materials as scheduled in the library
*Prepares monthly inmate participation and other required reports
*Establishes and maintains a resource guide for inmates including: Social Services, Job Development, Employment Centers, Emergency Housing, Vocational or Educational Programs, Substance Abuse Counseling, and other related programs or agencies available to inmates upon release
*Ordering appropriate materials and supplies to meet the needs of the Law Library and Inmates
*Schedule inmate law library use
*Provide leisure games and activities to inmates to relieve stress and tension
*Solicit and collect donated books and other reading materials
*Provides writing materials, or photocopy services to inmates requiring these
*Ensures inmates in administrative and disciplinary segregation receive access to reading materials as scheduled in the library
*Prepares monthly inmate participation and other required reports
*Establishes and maintains a resource guide for inmates including: Social Services, Job Development, Employment Centers, Emergency Housing, Vocational or Educational Programs, Substance Abuse Counseling, and other related programs or agencies available to inmates upon release
*Ordering and maintain an inventory of games and recreational items needed for placement in the housing units

Requirements:

*High School Diploma minimum is required
*Two years of college in addition to experience working with inmates in Correctional Facility or similar situation is preferred
*Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License
*Required minimum 21 years of age
*Good oral and written communications skills are necessary
*Ability to work in a secure environment. Basic knowledge of legal terminology.
*Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel helpful
