Recruitment Number 211292 - Lihue, Kauai Employment Only - $7,815 per month (Salary includes Shortage Category Differential).

Note: This recruitment is being conducted on behalf of the State Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS), who will be responsible for the evaluation of qualifications, notification to applicants, and any subsequent questions or issues arising therefrom.

Duties Summary:

Manages a major engineering branch or district office exercising technical and administrative control, through subordinate professional supervisors, over major engineering programs involving large monetary expenditures, or directs several small groups of engineers engaged in extremely complex projects; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

EDUCATION: All applicants must meet one of the requirements specified in A, B or C below:
A. Graduation from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university.
Note: For some positions, graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in physics, mathematics, or chemistry may be accepted as qualifying, provided the applicant has had at least 15 credits in engineering sciences, common to all engineering disciplines; e.g., thermodynamics, statics, electrical science, applied mechanics, engineering drawing, strength of materials, etc.
B. Administrative, professional or technical experience involving the application and knowledge of the fundamental physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering including physics, chemistry, mathematics through integral calculus, and engineering sciences such as statics, dynamics, strength of material, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and engineering drawing and other specialized courses to one of the branches of engineering. Such experience must be substantially equivalent to the knowledge and understanding gained by completion of a college training leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering; or
C. A combination of college training in engineering and experience mentioned in B above substantively equivalent to completion of a college training leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering.

ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE: Four years of progressively responsible professional engineering which required the knowledge and application of the basic physical and mathematical sciences and the engineering sciences to the solution of theoretical or practical engineering problems.

Supervisory Experience: Two years of professional engineering experience which included training coordinates, coordinating and assigning workloads, evaluating performance, assisting in difficult and problem areas, and maintaining high standards of work and timely accomplishment of work objectives; OR

Staff Advisory Experience: Two years of professional engineering experience as technical expert in a specialized area or program function performing staff advisory, consultative and/or reviewing the work of a staff of specialists assigned to such activities as long-range planning, research and/or development of specific projects, programs, etc.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE: Administrative aptitude rather than actual administrative experience may be accepted. This requirement will be considered to have been met when there is strong affirmative evidence of the necessary administrative abilities.

Quality of Experience: Of the total experience described above, at least one year of the experience MUST have been comparable to the Engineer VI OR two years comparable to the Engineer V in State service.

The Engineer V supervises the planning, design, construction, maintenance and/or operation of a number of major and complex engineering projects; or works independently on advanced planning, design or research projects involving elements of a highly critical or unprecedented nature; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The Engineer VI supervises the professional and nonprofessional personnel of a major engineering activity; develops procedures and standards for carrying out his/her specialty in the organization, and represents the organization with authority on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization; and performs other related duties as assigned.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Relevant substitutions as described in the following Supplemental Questions, Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.

A. Applicants must possess a Hawaii State certificate of registration as a professional engineer.
B. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, Type 3, at the time of application.
