Provide research and reference services for both the Circulation and Reference departments of the Library under the supervision of the Manager of Circulation Services. Serve as a liaison between Circulation and Reference in provision of services. Provide research services to support interlibrary borrowing and lending, and to support course reserves, including the verification of sources in terms of copyright compliance and fair use. At the Reference Desk, answer directional, ready reference and assignment-based research questions, as well as basic computing and software application questions via telephone, email and chat. Assist and instruct patrons in the use of the Library website to search catalogs, indexes and databases, and the web; in finding and retrieving information in the Library's print and electronic resources; in locating library materials available in the College of DuPage Library and other libraries.

DUTIES OF POSITION:
*(DENOTES ESSENTIAL FUNCTION)
*1. Provide research services to support the interlibrary loan and course reserves operations of the Library.
*2. Research the copyright status of items needed for course reserves and determine fees related to fair use.
*3. Provide service to faculty in locating reserves materials, including locating possible alternative sources when fair use cannot be obtained.
*4. Answer directional, ready reference, reference and assignment-based research questions; as well as basic computing and software application questions for patrons in the Library, on the telephone and via email or chat.
*5. Assist and instruct patrons (students, faculty and community members) in using Library computers to search catalogs, indexes and databases, research guides and the Web. Assist and instruct patrons in printing from Library databases and the Internet. Help students with assignments requiring the use of print and electronic sources.
*6. Assist and instruct patrons in selecting appropriate resources and tools, creating search strategies and finding and retrieving information in the Library's print and electronic resources.
*7. Assist and instruct patrons in searching for and interpreting periodical citations and printing articles from the electronic sources. Help patrons locate periodical holdings in the Library and at area libraries, using online catalogs or help place an Interlibrary Loan Request.
*8. Assist and instruct students who are writing research papers, in paper writing mechanics and style (MLA, APA, etc.) as well as document formatting and layout.
9. Assist patrons in selecting and accessing appropriate software from the applications programs listed on the Library menu screen. Answer basic questions about the programs and refer patrons to software manuals for in-depth information.
10. Interpret and enforce Library Policies and Rules of Behavior.
11. Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required:
Library Technical Assistant Certificate; Two (2) years of college.
Preferred: Library Technical Assistant Certificate and Associate's Degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:
One (1) year library work experience. Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Preferred: Two (2) years' library work experience; public services experience.

EQUIPMENT AND/OR MACHINES USED:
Computers - networked Library computers and wireless laptops, laser and color printers; copy card readers; copy card dispensers; microform readers/printers; photocopiers and fax machines; multi-line telephone and a variety of audiovisual equipment for patron use such as Monitor/Players, Slide/Tape Players and specialized equipment used by the visually impaired. A variety of software including MS Office Suite, OCLC and ARIEL.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Behind the scenes as well as public service area; must have excellent people skills; must be flexible and willing to adjust to last minute situations. Come into contact with toner for copiers. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to spend extended period of time at a computer keyboard and monitor. Vision adequate to read a variety of print materials and computer screens.
