Duties And Responsibilities
& Minimum Requirements:
This position is responsible for leading the University wide effort to create a sustainable business intelligence (BI) platform that will meet current and emerging institutional needs. This platform will provide strategic and operational support to senior executives, mid-Managers, and departmental users across the institution with accurate and timely information on an as-needed basis. BI will be used extensively for institutional reporting, analysis and decision support for Financials, Human Resources, Student and Faculty Administration and Advancement (contributions to the University). Ultimately this environment will be used for integrated reporting across these functional areas as well integrate data in the future from complex sources like those containing unstructured data.
In detail, this position will provide functional and technical leadership in three areas within the context of Georgetown University’s BI Strategy:
Guiding the user community including stakeholders in the appropriate methods to create an effective and sustainable business intelligence environment based on past experience and industry best practices. Responsibilities include soliciting requirements from users, documenting the design based on user requirements, leading training and communication with users, deploying and ongoing support of the reporting environment, and developing the appropriate change control processes to manage quality and user expectations.
Deploying a best practice based model for designing and deploying BI content. Responsibilities include ensuring BI design is scalable for data and user growth and that the technologies selected for the platform are capable of meeting current and future needs, securing the data so that the right information gets to the right user communities without compromising institutional and data integrity (with a thorough understanding of how it influences access to data and reports), setting guidelines for data management (ETL) processes and leveraging the latest features in the reporting technologies so that the underlying infrastructure is used in the most optimal manner, managing quality control processes including setting up the framework for all levels of testing, providing oversight to the quality of test scripts and testing processes, guiding the users through testing, receiving user sign off, and assuring the user community of data accuracy.
Managing a team of direct reports and business users. Responsibilities include managing the design, creation, and delivery of BI content, leading the training and communication with the users, deploying and ongoing support of the reporting environment; guiding the creation of data dictionary and reporting BI documentation, and effective maintenance of the entire BI platform and related data management applications.

HR, Benefits and Payroll ? Workday
Financials ? currently, PeopleSoft 7.5. Planned conversion to Workday in July, 2014

Advancement ? Sage Millenium
Database is Oracle
One of the reporting tools is Cognos
Experience with these applications is preferable, priority on Workday, Oracle and Cognos.
Position requires thorough knowledge of BI solutions in complex, multi-ERP environments, knowledge of database usage for BI purposes, trends in BI technologies for reporting and analysis, and broad understanding of higher education processes and complexities of enterprise data. Also required is the ability to rapidly adapt to changing business requirements and to efficiently acquire and utilize new skills in response to such change. Incumbent is expected to work within and across teams to support the acquisition of new skills and areas of expertise; and must apply proven communication, analytical and problem solving skills in order to produce timely, efficient and high quality deliverables.
Minimum Requirements and Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems or some related field
10 years of progressively responsible experience in reporting, data warehouse management, business intelligence and analytics for higher education
Demonstrated knowledge of HR or financial applications, accounting systems and modern data analysis and enterprise-scale reporting tools
The ability to analyze and document business processes in a technical format
Understanding of project management software
Requires demonstrated knowledge of SQL, and accounting/financial data, reporting and processes
Any experience in the following is a plus: enterprise data warehouse systems/tools (e.g., Informatica, Cognos)
Any experience in the following is a plus: environment and development tools (e.g., Oracle, SQR, SQL, SAS); and Workday.
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Ability to build and use effective working relationships within own department and across line, functional and geographic reporting lines.
