This role will provide ongoing support of all released Stratus UNIX (primarily Linux) and VMware ESX software products. Act as lead or assist on significant projects providing technical assistance to the members of the team and develop plans and schedules. Participates in the review of functional and design specifications, documentation and test plans; generates, tests, and debugs new or ported code; submits bug fixes and enhancements as requested.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for analyzing, isolating and reproducing customer-reported UNIX problems, developing fixes, providing workarounds, and developing custom features (enhancements) when required.
Required to adhere to the Software Sustaining Engineering Process used by Stratus Sustaining Engineering to report problems, describe bugs, enter fix data and report the availability of the fix in a software release version; in return can be distributed to internal and field sites.
Provide support commitments in terms of releases supported and responsiveness goals; must also be well versed on usage of various tools for tracking bugs, controlling software versions, building OS releases, packaging and installing software, etc.
Skilled at dump analysis on Intel x86_64 hardware is preferred
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Requires a BS technical degree or its equivalent; along with 5 to 7 years of software development experience with at least 3 years of experience on a large scale sustaining activity.
Strong Linux and VMware ESX knowledge is highly preferred.
Familiarity with using bug-tracking databases, source control utilities (e.g., Subversion, etc.), software patch deliveries and installations, and an understanding of sound engineering methodology are a plus.
Knowledge of Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) software design constructs and an understanding of kernel and user level threads is desired.
Software languages desired include C, C++ (or equivalent) and assembler.
