Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field from an accredited college or university. Licensure by the District of Columbia Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs Board of Dietetics and Nutrition. Membership in the American Dietetic Association, must be maintained throughout the course of employment. At least (1) year of recent experience as a practitioner in dietetics in a healthcare environment preferred. Dietitians assigned to a specialty e.g. neonatal, renal, ICU etc., for all or part of the duties, experience must include at least one (1) year of practice in that
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Provides clinical nutrition expertise in the areas of medical nutrition therapy and patient education. Conducts nutrition assessment for patients at nutritional risk. Accurately obtains and interprets medical information pertinent to the patient’s nutritional care to address nutritional risk, assess nutritional status and develops individual specialized care plans to simultaneously address several disease processes. Utilizes assessment and evaluation techniques that consider the varied need of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious and ethnic concerns. Continuously monitors progress of patients determined to be at nutritional risk. Reassess and revises patient care plans and nutrition therapies as necessary. Confer and collaborate with Food Services and nursing staff as appropriate to ensure accurate interpretation and administration of nutritional/dietary prescription. Utilize the approved format to document pertinent nutrition related information and interventions in patients’ medical records. Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups, incorporating a learning approach that considers the cultural, religious, educational, and medical situation of the patient. Serves as a resource to medical staff and allied health personnel on nutrition issues. Assists in the education of dietetic students and interns. Plans learning experiences, teaches, and evaluates performance. Participates in community projects and education as needed/assigned. Conducts in-services and educational presentations to hospital/department staff. Maintains productivity standards and practices, effective time management, and prioritizing of tasks; assists in achieving compliance with regulatory agency standards, including state, federal, and JCAHO standards.
