Position Summary
PtCAs will function as an integral member of the patient care team and on patient care units will provide basic nursing care to hospitalized patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in addition to completing patient transfers. The PtCA helps to maintain a safe patient care unit and demonstrates a caring attitude toward patients.

Minimum Requirements
Patient care experience (institutional) of one year or more required. Successfully completed a Basic Life Support (BLS) course for the Healthcare provider and has a current card. Able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing to staff and patients regarding patient care. Exhibits patience and tact when interacting with all patients, visitors and co-workers. Exhibits excellent customer service skills and adheres to Good Samaritan Core Values. Exhibits the ability to work independently. Able to read basic documentation forms for charting purposes. Able to work well with others and demonstrates a willingness to resolve disagreements with co-workers. Must be able to stand/walk for approximately 80% of the shift and frequently bend/stoop to perform job duties. Must be able to: Lift occasionally up to 50 lbs. independently when performing patient care activities. Carry equipment/supplies occasionally, typically weighing up to 25 lbs. Push/pull forces typically up to 50 lbs. when positioning, transferring, and transporting patients. May participate in lifting/pushing/pulling patients in excess of 180 lbs. using team assistance or mechanical aids. Able to identify occupational hazards and uses safety precautions. Exhibits knowledge of National Patient Goals and adheres to policies and practices designed to increase patient safety.

Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Washington is required. Current enrollment in an accredited RN program may replace the certification requirement. For students currently enrolled in an accredited RN program, Registration as a Nurse’s Assistant is required.
Meets current State requirements to be certified as a Health Care Assistant, Category A (WAC 246-826-130).
