Position Summary

The Heart Station Tech performs EKG's, applies and scans Holters and Event monitors, and performs Cardiac Stress Testing. This applicant also prepares Pacemaker/ICD electronic transmissions for interpretation. The Heart Station tech must have basic understanding of Cardiac Arrhythmias.

Position Duties

1.

Performs Electrocardiograms

Review Physician order, and verify patient and procedure

Applies electrodes in proper position
Proper patient identification on the EKG
Prepare and process study for interpretation in the MUSE EKG Management system.

Enters orders and charges correctly.

2.

Applies and scans holter and event monitors

Review Physician order, and verify patient and procedure

Preps patient and applies appropriate electrodes.

Documents paperwork regarding monitor(monitor number, due back, etc)

Teach patients and parents regarding scan.

Prepares and processes study for interpretation.

Enters orders and charges correctly.

Monitors late or overdue monitors daily.

3.

Performs Cardiac stress test

Review Physician order, and verify patient and procedure

Retrieve clinic letter or chart outlining order for the test.

Prepares patient for procedure. Applies electrode appropriately.

Monitors patient for arrhythmias during procedure.

Notifies supervising Cardiologist of any complications.

Prepares and processes paperwork for interpretation.

Enter orders and charges correctly.

4.

Assist with pacemaker evaluation and Paceart Evaluations

Review Physician order, and verify patient and procedure

Applies electrodes appropriately for ECG.

Monitors ECG machine during pacemaker evaluation.

Checks Paceart systems daily for telephone transmissions'

Evaluates pacemaker transmissions daily

Prepares and processes paperwork for interpretation.

Enters orders and charges correctly.

5.

Maintains Departmental equipment

Inspects equipment daily for cleanliness

Monitors equipment during procedure for equipment malfunction.

Notifies Director immediately of major malfunctions.

Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Education Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Required

Experience Requirements

1 year EKG, Stress test, and or holter scanning experience

Preferred

Skill Requirements

Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals

Ability to work independently or within a team

Must be able to understand and communicate detailed instructions and procedures
