Job Title: Database Administrator

REPORTS TO: CIO

Location: Coastal, NJ

This is a full time position is working for our Client Company in the coastal area of NJ.

The company provides Grades 2-12 the first web-based, individualized learning solutions scientifically proven to accelerate reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing proficiency and performance on high stakes tests.

SUMMARY - DBA will improve, maintain and support production databases for web-based products providing highly available service to students worldwide. DBA performs all duties with discipline and awareness of our SLA's to our customers and handles a key role ensuring the database environment is designed and managed to meet business IT demands for availability, performance, and manageability.

SCOPE - Meet day-to-day, duties, accountabilities, and performance results of database administration to ensure 24/7 availability. Provide significant strategic direction to daily operations, best practices, security policies, and implementation procedures relating to large scale data infrastructure

Due to potential for working from remote locations, candidates between New York & North Carolina may be most interested as long as they can handle required periodic visits to Coastal - NJ and / or Southern - VA

Compensation: $105K+

DUTIES

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support existing production MySQL master-slave environment
  • Monitor, respond, correct operational issues associated to database health and system resource use
  • Manage correct operation of back-up and restoration procedures
  • Manage database software upgrade process, including data migration
  • Establish their role as primary subject matter expert on DB design issues
  • Improve database performance - analyzing performance characteristics / introducing enhancements
  • Work with Systems and Development teams to design, implement, maintain, scale, and tune open source SQL and No-SQL database systems
  • Support installation, administration and configuring MySQL / NoSQL Databases in high availability, multiple database server environment
  • Implements scalable solutions that support company's continued growth
  • Manage DB as it relates to system maintenance, monitoring, security, troubleshooting, disaster recovery, and other procedures that will maximize availability and uptime
  • Manage movement of production data to development and QA instances
QUALIFICATIONS

ATTRIBUTES / SKILLS
  • 7+ years experience; Extensive MySQL expertise; familiar with NoSQL technology (MongoDB); extensive experience with large scale environments and highly available critical services
  • Experience with MySQL replication
  • Understanding of and experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation
  • Knowledgeable in data profiling, meta data analysis, data modeling, and relational schema design
  • Expert level skill scripting languages: KSH, BASH, Perl, Python as used in large-scale data movement operations
  • Able to create and maintain automation frameworks to eliminate repetitive daily monitoring / maintenance operations
  • Skilled working with business users, technology development teams, external vendors
  • Focused attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective writing and communication skills able to present information to managers and employees
  • Ability to produce and release routine reports, project updates while corresponding in a timely, responsive, accurate account
  • Actively participate in building and maintaining productive working relationships with coworkers
  • Pro-actively share information as required with appropriate coworkers / team members
