Responsible for independent performance of a variety of routine, time critical and highly specialized tests and examinations in serology, chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, blood bank and microbiology.
Performs calibration, quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting on highly sophisticated and technical diagnostic equipment.
Evaluates and verifies results obtained and accurately reports according to established policies.
Participates in performance improvement studies and evaluations of new methods and procedures. Follows policies and procedures of West Florida Hospital. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and adheres to WFH standards of behavior.
Manages stress appropriately, makes decisions under pressure, handles multiple priorities, works alone and in areas that are confined and/or crowded.
Stands for 2-3 hours per day, sits for 2-3 hours per day, walks for 1-2 hours per day.
Periods of lifting, stooping, bending, talking, answering telephones, using computers.
Occasionally push/pull, lift/carry up to 20 pounds.
Performs repetitive tasks/motions, distinguishes colors, hears alarms/telephone/tape recorder/normal speaking voice.
Has good manual dexterity and clarity of vision.
Minimal supervision needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or closely related field is required. Eligibility for Florida licensure as a Medical Technologist is required. Current Florida Medical Technologist license is preferred.
No experience required.
Verbal, interpersonal, customer relations, mathematical, analytical, grammar/spelling, multi-tasking skills are required. Basic computer skills are required. Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and be detail-oriented required.
