Position Summary : Manager of Software Development

The Manager of Software Development is responsible for successfully delivering digital projects to meet the business objective of the Product Teams. This position requires a person who can envision and model features that would make products innovative, and targeted at specific challenges in the discipline and personas created by the Product team, but, also stay true to the core such that we can manage the architecture of the platform. This will require a close cooperative relationship with the Technology Architecture and Platform team members. The individual who fills this role will need to be creative, practical, and adept at managing complex projects. The projects have a high level of visibility and risk, but come with the opportunity to impact new derivations on digital instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures that all technology deliverables required by the Product Manager partner reach successful completion on schedules required by the Product teams; Brings software development/engineering background to play in conceptualizing ways to bring software technology to the market area in this domain; Accompany Product teams to customer sites to gain a better understanding of the learning objectives of institutions, instructors, and students, and to gain an understanding of how the varied stakeholders need to engage with software solutions; Provide advice to Product Manager regarding technical option to meet business goals; Provide day to day team leadership constantly focusing on how to keep teams productive and moving forward along schedules needed to deliver all products; Provides software development expertise to actively contribute to teams deliverables; Tracks and continuously improves project quality and team throughput; Clears organizational roadblocks and obtains resources that teams need to be successful; Coordinates with product and content delivery teams to meet project timelines; Work with Product Manager to maintain prioritization of features in the product roadmap(s) for the market domain; Communicates status of project to stakeholders

Minimum Requirements and Skills

Bachelors degree, preferably in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and recent relevant work experience; Background studies or experience in the discipline area; Experience leading teams to deliver successful results; 5+ years of experience in technical positions in a software development organization this could be in software development, software architecture, systems analysis, software QA, or similar; Ability to use all industry software design and development tools to produce project artifacts in support of product delivery; Ability to prioritize all work and analyze interdependencies; Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of organization; Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; Creativity balanced with practicality to meet business objectives/team needs; Active listening skills and ability to translate needs, concerns and solutions across functional/stakeholder groups; Background in Object Oriented Programming
