Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position, Senior VOIP Engineer, to join us in our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction. This position is responsible for planning, maintaining and implementing an enterprise server-based VOIP (Telephone) services at Boise State for the Office of Information Technology. Although the primary focus of this position is to implement and support VOIP services, the individual may also be tasked with general network support and build-outs including security, routing, switching, wireless, and other network related duties.
You will have the opportunity to:
Manage and administer production Cisco IP-PBX to deliver VOIP Telephone services to Faculty and Staff at Boise State.
Monitor, Evaluate and recommend maintenance plans, system upgrades, new features, disaster recovery for VOIP Telephone Services. This includes system performance monitoring, data storage and backup/restore needs, maintainability, and availability.
Engineer, implement and manage VOIP network design, optimization, VOIP hardware and software, diagnostics and analytical measurements.
Develop and distribute regular – availability, performance and capacity trend reports.
Hands on completion and physical delivery of End to End voice services, to include: Cisco VOIP phones, analog services and dry pairs.
Work with end users to manage system issues, upgrade problems, configuration problems, and end user training issued to provide a reliable Telephone Service from the end users perspective.
Manages user accounts and provides assistance to end users in running applications (support/installation/configuration). Troubleshoot configuration issues, as needed.
Order, install and troubleshoot SIP, Tl and PRI voice circuits
Maintain an accurate inventory of Cisco VOIP equipment.
Work closely with Information Security Office to address vulnerabilities.
Ensure requests for equipment and services are met and documented in OIT work order system.
Ensure all support documentation is kept current.
Provide on-call support for Voice and Data Services.
Establish and define automated system installation/configuration procedures.
Create System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting knowledgebase of the infrastructure.
Establish performance models and validation techniques.
Perform other duties as required by the situation and circumstances
Develop online user training information.
Develop appropriate user documentation for use and questions.
Work with end users to provide alternative configuration and setups.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience
Expert working knowledge / hands on experience with installation, setup and configuration of Cisco telephones
Expert working knowledge / hands on experience with installation, configuration and maintenance of Cisco Call Manager, Unity, and Cisco UCCX.
Experience with Cisco Voice Gateways. (VG’s, ATA’s)
Strong working knowledge of telecom systems, dial plans and Telecom wiring (T568b, 66 and 110 blocks).
Experience with SIP trunking.
Experience interfacing with Cisco’s TAC to resolve system issues.
Stay current on Cisco tools and products.
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively work on and prioritize concurrent projects.
Experience with T1, PRI, dry pair termination and testing.
Strong understanding of advanced Cisco Switching and Routing, IP packet architecture, network security, AAA. (5+ years)
Ability to write and execute detailed project plans.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Master’s Degree or equivalent professional experience
