JOB INTRODUCTION

The Clackamas County Community Health Division has an opening for a qualified Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for its Beavercreek Health & Wellness Center. PLEASE NOTE: This position is limited term, expected to last ten (10) months from the time of appointment.

This position is specific to well child checks and preventive wellness visits with patients over 50 years of age and laboratory tasks specific to colorectal screening.
CMA's provide routine medical assistance to professional health care providers in the delivery of patient care; prepare clinic patients for physical examinations, collect specimens, perform routine diagnostic tests and record health information; perform clerical support functions in patient reception and medical records; and other work as required.

The position will be located in our Beavercreek Health & Wellness Center. The Center will offer primary care services to students and community residents. The Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving an ethnic and socio-economically diverse population with varied needs. This position provides an opportunity to work with populations with varied needs ranging from prenatal care to care for the elderly.
A copy of your CMA certification will be requested later in the process.

Requirements include:
  • Current certification/registration as a Medical Assistant by a nationally recognized program.
National certification programs include:
  • American Association of Medical Assistants
  • National Certified Medical Assistant
  • American Medical Technologists
  • The ability to successfully pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug screen.
  • Current CPR and First Aid training.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
Familiarity with electronic record-keeping is preferred. Applicants who are bilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.
The most successful candidates will have at least one (1) year of work experience as a certified medical assistant.

WORK SCHEDULE

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. This position will work approximately 33 hours/week. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Clackamas County Community Health Division has an opening for a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for its Beavercreek Health & Wellness Center. This position is a limited term, full-time (.83 FTE) position, expected to last ten (10) months from the time of appointment.

Clackamas County Health Centers provide direct medical, dental, and mental health services to Clackamas County residents.
Clackamas County Health Centers operates a variety of facilities throughout the County providing high quality family health, dental care, and mental health services for an affordable cost. Our centers and programs are staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners, and certified medical assistants. We can treat everything from bumps and bruises to colds and flu and more serious health problems. We can help with your dental care needs, and we can help with your mental health needs and substance abuse challenges. We provide services at our Integrated Primary Health Care Clinics, our mental health clinics, or through our School Based Health Centers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
1. Greets and instructs patients on visit process - specific to Well Child Checks and preventive wellness visits with patients over 50 years of age. Scrub charts in anticipation of visit. Review Solutions reports to contact patients in need of these services. Participate in patient centered medical home model; work with clinic teams to ensure patient follow through.
2. Prepares patients for examination, lab procedures and tests; obtains medical history and takes vital signs; records weight, height, temperature, blood pressure and pulse; gathers patient chart, test results and other reports.

3. Assists providers with medical examinations and procedures; prepares instrument trays, changes dressings and cleanses wounds; provides follow-up instructions to patients and arranges and tracks referrals as directed by providers.

4. Laboratory tasks specific to colorectal screening and well child checks. Give directions to clients regarding specimen collection and lab procedures to be performed per provider orders. Collects lab specimens and performs standard diagnostic tests, such as hemoglobin count, pregnancy tests, urine tests, rapid strep screens, blood glucose, EKG’s and hearing and vision tests; prepares, processes and delivers specimens to clinic laboratory or packages for outside laboratory; record results in medical record or on laboratory logs.

5. Performs basic first aid, such as ear and eye lavages, changing dressings, stitch removal and treating minor burns, cuts and scrapes under direction of health care provider.

6. Maintains examination rooms and laboratory; set up examination rooms with appropriate supplies and equipment; keeps rooms stocked with supplies and linens; inventory and order medical supplies for providers; cleans, sterilizes and stores instruments; works with providers and other staff to create and maintain effective flow of patients in clinic.

7. Performs medical office and clerical tasks; greets patients and schedules appointments; provides front office coverage for patient check-in and check-out; responds to telephone inquiries; processes referrals and release of information forms; performs data entry and prepares clinic reports.

8. Under direction and supervision of health care provider, administers certain immunizations, injections and medications, and draws blood as appropriate.

9. Updates and maintains patient files in the electronic medical record system.
