Job Summary: This job is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating and rendering skilled nursing care to patients in the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Supervises, plans, and carries out patient care decisions. Serves as a leader and clinical resource to staff under direction of nursing leadership. Acts as a role model, demonstrating technical/clinical competence consistent with the needs of staff and the patient population served.
Assists staff with problem solving and decision making. Collaborate with the primary RN or team leader to ensure the planning and delivery of quality patient care in partnership with physician, interdisciplinary team and patient/family. Essential Duties: Provides nursing care in all areas of Diagnostic Imaging by assessing patient needs, planning and implementing appropriate interventions, documenting care and evaluating outcomes; employs skills in using special equipment such as monitors, infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen and suction equipment, and ventilators. Provides care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process; assesses patients in an ongoing and systematic manner to gather data useful in determining patient care; documents nursing care and patient status in accordance with applicable requirements.
Provides care for patients undergoing procedural sedation. Identifies, and takes advantage of, educational opportunities to keep nursing skills current; attends department meetings and educational classes; shares knowledge, experience and feedback to other employees. Provides instructions to the patient and family regarding activities before and after the diagnostic imaging procedure; assists in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of patient/family educational needs so that adequate information is communicated. Adheres to Diagnostic Imaging's Policy and Procedures, safety, risk management and Universal Precautions Standards; maintains awareness of legal issues within the Generic Structure Standards so that care is provided in such a way as to minimize risk.
Participates in continuous quality improvements; assists with standards development and QA activities; serves on hospital, nursing and department committees as required; participates in the development of documents and/or forms (ie. Informed Consent). Uses Standard Precautions including personal protective equipment for anticipated contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials; uses prescribed personal protective equipment when contact with infectious material is anticipated; maintains Delegates, coordinates and oversees clinical operations and patient placement/unit staffing for defined shift and department according to defined hospital standards. Responds appropriately and timely to disturbances, interruptions, and subtle and emergent changes in the work environment to minimize potential risks to the unit workflow.
Assists with monitoring of regulatory requirements as defined by unit needs. Facilitates essential communication related to patient care and operations. Communicates closely with and supports leadership team regarding daily operations of the unit. Performs related duties as required.
QualificationsEducation: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing Possession of a BSN degree is preferred. Experience: Two years of experience in the clinical specialty within the last three years preferred. Prefer previous charge nurse experience. License/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
Current ACLS is required within one year of employment.
