Responsible for validation of Lays out, fabricated parts and assembles and a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges. Utilizes related standard measurement devices and optical tooling involving compound angels and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous parts and components, establishes reference points between several planes as required. Plans work, sets up and operates optical instruments to check overall and detailed alignment, fit, or adjustment of assemblies. Develops and designs holding devices and jig and fixture details as needed. Prepares operational sequences and shop drawings covering parts fabrication and assembly to be performed by others. Understand, monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Provides support regarding Process Improvements within assigned areas of dimensional validation
Position in which employee is a key role within the Operations group to validate and work towards the overall improvement of dimensional accuracy and focuses on the reduction of alignment rework. maintains an overall focus of process work, and dimensional requirements that support accurate alignment of structure. Provides support to deck plate processes in ensuring part/components/units/ etc… are constructed to meet constructional process tolerances. Utilizing Process Improvement tools (Lean, Statistical Process Control, Root Cause Corrective Action) for improvement of process issues/problems.
High School diploma or equivalent and ship construction hull experience. Familiar with construction processes, ship lines, terminology, layout, measure techniques and equipment. Must be proficient with computers, and have working knowledge and use of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word and Access).
Recent apprentice graduate; Familiar with construction processes, ship lines, terminology, lvarious measurement units (English/Metric). Familiar with layout, measure techniques and equipment. Must have advance math skills (Geometry) and good communication skills both written and oral.
