removes, inspects, and reinstalls aircraft components including, but not limited to, flight control surfaces, throttle components, landing gear components, gear box assemblies, brake assemblies, and aircraft engines.
Perform scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operational checks of all aircraft systems as necessary.
Perform maintenance and repair of assigned aircraft.
Coordinate maintenance activities with senior section personnel.
Conduct inspections including, but not limited to pre-flight, thru-flight and BPO.
Service aircraft as required for flight.
Launch and recovers aircraft as required.
Use schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications in operating, testing, removing, repairing, and replacing aircraft systems and components within qualifications.
Operate ground support equipment and uses hand tools, special tools and fixtures applicable to the assigned aircraft.
Perform all required aircraft servicing tasks.
Perform all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records and is proficient in CAMS documentation.
Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times
Perform aircraft conditional inspections as required.
Rig flight controls, canopies, throttles and landing gear.
May be required to acquire and maintain engine run certification, become Red X certified or become qualified on different MDS aircraft.
Perform additional duties as required.
Knowledge & Skills
Working knowledge of jet aircraft systems and the use of common hand tools and special tools.
Working knowledge of aircraft maintenance safety requirements and know how to operate portable fire-fighting equipment.
Able to read, write, speak, and understand English
Ability to read and comprehend technical data is required.
Customer oriented and able to provide professional coordination with Operations and other base agencies.
Able to obtain and maintain a flight line drivers license and may be required to obtain and maintain a class CDL.
Experience & Education
High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
Three (3) or more years’ experience as an aircraft mechanic or equivalent on the assigned aircraft.
Completion of a military or civilian aviation maintenance school or minimum of five years’ experience in aviation maintenance as an aircraft mechanic and completion of
Air Force 3 Level CDC Aircraft Mechanic Course is required.
Completion of the Air Force 3 Level CDC Aircraft Mechanic Course is not required for employees who have had a minimum of five years recent experience assigned as an aircraft mechanic on the specific MDS.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be able to work day shift, night shift, or weekend duty as required.
May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
Must be able to pass a respiratory evaluation and wear Personnel Protective Equipment (respirator).
TDY and travel to support the contract may be required.
