NP Position:

Job description: Under supervision of physician, provides medical oncology care in collaborative joint practice to patients and/or family members, primarily in an outpatient free-standing cancer center, but including hospital rounding on a limited number of inpatients, on ongoing basis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

Collaborating with other health care providers in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for individual patients.
Providing coordinated, continuous medical oncology health care; making patient rounds; assisting physician in office; acting as a liaison between patient/family and clinic as well as inpatient nursing staff. Interfacing with family and patients in telephone communication, to facilitate ongoing care and as liaison for physician.

Performing patient exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings; obtaining, recording, and maintaining relevant health history and progress notes; dictating office notes, admission histories and physicals; and completing appropriate documentation and relevant insurance/disability/back to work/Hospice enrollment/etc paperwork, as necessitated by patient circumstance and to be reviewed with supervising physician. Keeping appropriate documentation of level of service rendered in various clinical encounters.

Requesting and evaluating lab data, initiating appropriate interventions; evaluating patient response, prescribing drug therapies with physician back up and consultation.

Assisting physician with procedures as needed; conducting patient assessments and providing physician with information prior to MD seeing the patient.

Teaching and promoting positive patient/family home care activities; recommending support/educational activities and community resources to meets patient and family needs.
Instructing patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions. Providing patient education.

Acting as a resource to other health care team members; participating in continuing education offerings, including planning and implementation, where appropriate.


Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant



Educational Requirements: Successful completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Graduate Education program (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant).

Prefer: Previous experience in oncology.

Also needed: Current state license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant necessary.
Current CPR certification required.

Nurse Practitioner

Requirements for Nurse Practitioner includes:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Years of experience necessary for each level.
    • level I - Minimum 0-3 years post MSN experience in oncology nursing.
    • level II - Minimum of three years post MSN experience in oncology nursing.
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiologic and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current state certification of Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • AOCN certification preferred but not required.
