As part of the Support Services or Hosting Services team, the Systems Administrator provides installation and complete integration of server, client, and associated peripheral devices, expert tier 1 and 2 support, and consultation for internal/external customer-owned systems as well as any internal systems managed by IT.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties:
Install and maintain servers, including disk arrays, network configuration, high availability clustering, third party software and hardware installation in cooperation with hardware and software vendors
Maintain miscellaneous equipment including PC clients, terminal servers, printers, and moderns
Work with Support liaison to triage issues and address or expedite as required
Provide day-to-day support of Hosting customer environment including:
Coordinating and facilitating environment upgrade, conversions, and general maintenance
Build out of new Web, Application and Database servers based on customer needs
Maintaining the Microsoft Active Directory and DNS infrastructure
Assist with Deploy Emergency Service Patches, ESP's, when necessary
Maintain system and user administration as it relates to the infrastructure and application interaction
Provide tier 1 support for Hosting Services of tier 2 for Support Services in areas of expertise
Provide 24X7 on call support, on a rotating basis, as necessary
Provide consulting services in areas of expertise to internal customers
Assist project teams with trouble shooting problems in areas of expertise
Implement backup and recovery strategies and procedures. Integrate backups with Database Administrators
Review application performance information through monitoring tools and SQL query data analysis
Perform scripted actions against systems for routine alerts
Develop and document new procedures in areas of expertise
Manage small projects and initiatives to makes use of new tools or technologies, to institute or revise current operational procedures
Manage and monitor personal task assignments and timetables for milestone achievements
Adopt and foster a Systems Administration Services team approach
Support the mission and vision of the company
Provide regular status reports
Assist with documentation of standard group practices
Develop and maintain a growing knowledge of systems administration including installation, networking, clustering and high availability
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, MIS or related field
Prefer 1 - 3 years of Server and Network Administration
For all products, one or more years experience with one or more of the following Operating System technologies:
HP-UX
AIX
Solaris
Linux (RedHat or SUSE)
Certification or progress toward certification a plus
For all products, one or more years experience with one or more of the following database technologies:
Oracle Database Server
SQL Server
IBM DB2
Proficiency in using and configuring backup applications a plus
Proficiency in using Microsoft applications and Microsoft Office
Understanding of fundamental networking
Strong problem definition and problem solving skills
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to handle multiple projects, handle pressure situations and empathize with project requirements
Travel as necessary, up to 10%
