Oversees the network systems operations and supervises the staff members who provide the technical support for the Credit Union. Ensures that the safety and integrity of the credit union networks are maintained. Serves as network and telecommunications technical interface with senior management and all departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures the proper staffing of the department at all times
  • Interviews and screens all qualified candidates for openings in the department and makes recommendations to the Vice President; schedules, assigns work to, and provides for training of subordinate network staff
  • Researches, analyzes, and coordinates the feasibility, cost justification, selection and purchase of designated technology, hardware, and software systems
  • Reviews and negotiates Information Technology vendor contracts for competitiveness and performs vendor due diligence as prescribed by Credit Union policy
  • Monitors the operation of all network and telecommunications systems
  • Ensures networks perform within established guidelines and in relation to established Credit Union’s policies and procedures
  • Coordinates with network system vendors the repair of any software problems
  • Coordinates with network maintenance providers the maintenance or repair of network hardware
  • Coordinates any maintenance or repair of any network equipment not covered by a service agreement
  • Ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established standards
  • Coordinates the use of network management software to monitor LAN/WAN functions to detect faults and manage throughput
  • Performs periodic audits of software and network system usage and connections to ensure compliance with Credit Union's Safeguarding Member Information Standards and Procedures, Credit Union policies and to guard against unauthorized users and to prevent the introduction of any undesirable or destructive software
  • Assists management and staff by researching special system capabilities or problems
  • Keeps senior management advised of any system problem, hardware problem, or usage problem whereby the integrity of the credit union networks is compromised
  • Keeps senior management advised of any on-going problems not being resolved satisfactorily or that prevents the fulfillment of responsibilities
  • Coordinates the loading of new software programs and implementing quality control procedures by having computer output generated and analyzed for expected performance
  • Leads the ongoing development and testing of Network Operations disaster recovery
  • Ensures critical operations and data files are backed up and stored off-site
  • Leads in the development of the operating budget for the Network Operations department
  • Documents and creates the annual reviews for the Network Operations staff; this includes performance evaluations, recommendations for salary increases, changes in responsibilities, and recommendations for specific goals for each employee
  • Conducts departmental meetings as required, also speaks to full executive team and board on occasion
  • Coordinates all scheduling of vacation and other time off
  • Follows up on any adverse trends in absenteeism or tardiness
  • Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • A level of technical knowledge and experience normally acquired through completion of a four year program in computer science plus seven to ten years of Information Technology experience
  • The interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills necessary to relate to members, staff and vendors in a friendly and professional manner
  • The skills to supervise the work of highly technical department personnel
  • Must have proven project management skills with projects of varying complexity and experience with Microsoft Project
  • Must be able to attend conferences, seminars and training sessions out of the area
  • Experience in drafting RFPs
  • Extensive knowledge in Cisco Systems equipment, network design, network protocol analysis, telecommunications design & analysis, and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Work requires the ability to understand complex computer and network system operations. This understanding involves the computer operating systems as well as numerous user programs and applications
  • Requires an analytical mind and problem solving skills
  • Extensive familiarity with the credit union’s network and operating systems, as well as numerous communication protocols
  • Professional network system certifications preferred
