The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 5, seeks a
qualified entry-level prosecutor to work in the District Court
division. This ADA will be responsible for a courtroom that routinely
has 200-400 cases a day. The ADA will interact with victims and
witnesses, members of law enforcement, judicial officials, and defense
attorneys. Responsibilities also include calling the calendar each day,
bench trials, administrative traffic court, and first appearances.
Position is full time with benefits and will prosecute criminal
matters in district court.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to independently manage a courtroom on a daily basis. Skilled
multi-tasker who shows poise under pressure. Eloquent speaker with
the ability to organize thoughts and ideas for a trial setting.
Training and Experience Requirements
Juris Doctorate degree with a license to practice law in North
Carolina. Successful candidate must be a highly professional, self-
motivated individual with excellent people skills. This position
requires constant interaction with people from diverse backgrounds.
Requires excellent organizational skills and ability to deal
efficiently with large caseloads and/or court dockets. MANAGEMENT
PREFERS: Management prefers some experience, but will consider
applicants with 0-2 years experience. Familiarity with DWI laws and
domestic violence cases is preferred. Degrees must be from
appropriately accredited institutions.
