ENGINEERING SERVICES AIDE I(Transportation Engineering) (Survey & Mapping)

MAJOR FUNCTIONS: Ability to perform unique tasks and special projects within the Surveying and Mapping Section of the Transportation Department/Engineering Division.
This position is primarily responsible for creating maps, legal descriptions, and other documents related to Surveying and Mapping, using computerized drafting software. This position may also be responsible for performing the continuous input of data into the Transportation Asset Management database.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: Functions as project manager for projects of varying size and complexity. Oversees and/or assists in preparation and review of plans, maps, drawings, and specifications for a variety of civil engineering and surveying and mapping projects for the Engineering Division. Prepares and maintains project time lines and budgets. Prepares cost estimates for various construction projects. Prepares agenda items. Assist with preparation of presentation documents. Coordinates survey and right-of-way activities to maintain timelines. Review and process contractor and consultant invoices, monitors construction progress by coordinating with county inspection staff and contractors. Interprets right-of-way maps and plans for property owners and the general public. Assist with the tracking and management of contracts with appraisers, abstract companies, and acquisition firms. Also assist with the preparations of ingress and egress documents, maintaining township and range files, processing requests for road variances, processing requests for right-of-way easement vacations, and the preparation of associated agenda requests for BoCC approval. Perform related duties and assist with various engineering and surveying and mapping projects as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Individual must possess knowledge of principles and practices of roadway design process. Knowledge of mathematics including algebra and trigonometry. Knowledge of plans and specifications relating to roadways. Knowledge of basic principles of civil engineering and surveying as it relates to roadway design.
Ability to use good judgment and make independent decisions. Ability to maintain effective working relationship with fellow employees and the public. Ability to plan and schedule the work of others. Knowledge and ability to prepare correspondence, use spreadsheets, and various PC Software in order to carry out administrative duties. Assists in preparation of permit applications as required. In addition, applicant must have good communication skills, be able to speak English fluently, be able to use the telephone, read, and drive a passenger vehicle. Knowledge of appraisal methods, estimations and evaluations. Knowledge of title research process. Knowledge of map reading. Knowledge of documentation and recording of legal instruments for right-of-way. Ability to prepare legal descriptions.
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an equivalency diploma. Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience with transportation projects related to roadway design, surveying and mapping, right-of-way acquisition, permitting or construction, and computerized drafting (preferably ACAD).
Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to secure a valid Florida drivers license at the time of employment.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Work Schedule-4 x10s Monday-Friday
Rate of Pay: $15.12 per hour
