The Virginia Department of Health seeks applicants for Health Director for the New River Health District. The District comprises the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski and the city of Radford. The population of the districts is about 165,146. Located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the district has three large shopping malls and has quick access to Radford and Virginia Tech Universities and to the New River Community College. The Director is a state employee, reports to the Deputy Commissioner for Community Health and manages a budget of $4.8 million with a workforce of over 53 employees. The Director works very closely with elected officials, community leaders, health care providers & other state and local agencies. Manages programs such as disease control & prevention, environmental health, family planning, maternal & child health, oral health & emergency preparedness & response. Qualifications:
Physician license or eligibility in VA required, with public health & administrative & management experience. Board certification in preventive medicine & MPH preferred.
