Cares for the Cardio-Pulmonary needs of complex critical patients from newborn to the adult in an independent manner. Works collaboratively with all healthcare team members toward the best outcomes for the patient and the organization.
1.Provides Pulmonary Hygiene including nebulizers, various forms of CPT, NT suctioning and ensures proper respiratory humidification. Advanced airway management and collection of blood gasses.
2.Patient assessment including the ability to monitor labs, hemodynamics and radiology findings. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individual patient care appropriate to the age of the patients.
3.May acts as a member of trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rapid response teams.
4.Responsible for ventilator and Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) management, including ensuring safe, evidences based settings with appropriate changes.
5.Calibrates, cleans, sets up, maintains and troubleshoots all patient related equipment and instruments. Assembles and stores cleaned equipment.
6.Participates in in-house educational in-services inter and intradepartmental as well as attending outside seminars and work-shops, as requested by Manager.
7.Participates in various intermittent department tasks including; audits, quality assurance, statistical record keeping, patient charting and other special projects as specified by Manager.
8.May become trained as a core therapist in an ICU or diagnostics area.
9.Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Graduate of 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program; or approved alternative education as outlined in the state regulatory requirements.
'Must maintain a current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the state of practice.
'Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at date of hire.
'Must maintain all certifications, competencies and licensure as required by the department or as regulated by state or federal agencies.
'AAP ' Neonatal Resuscitation program must be current. Exceptions are core therapists that work in Sleep Disorder Labs, Pulmonary Diagnostics, or other core areas where babies are not delivered.
'Two years experience in acute care as a Respiratory Therapist required.
'Experience in ICU, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics preferred.
'Proficient with MS Office applications
'Must be able to set up, operate, and trouble shoots all respiratory related equipment in a quick and efficient manner.
'Must be able to quickly assess acute, critical care resident situations and respond with a decisive and appropriate course of action.
'Good time management skills

'NRP is not required for adult ICU core therapists.
'RRT is required for orientation to any specialty area. Therapists that are core staff in an
before 2010 and have not passed the NBRC RRT exam are not required to pass the RRT exam to stay in the core area.
'Sleep Center: RPSGT certification preferred.
'ACLS required for resource therapists within AICU.
