HOURLY WAGE: $9.19 per hour

HOURS: 16-20 hours per week (2 days per week, year round), to include weekends and holidays as needed. Hours and days per week vary depending on the time of year. Position is limited to less than 1,200 hours per calendar year.

START DATE: September 16, 2013 LOCATION: Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as a part-time/seasonal position and is not eligible for health benefits or paid leave. Enrollment in the WA state retirement system may be mandatory. This position is an at-will position with no written or implied contractual agreement.


Under the supervision of full-time Animal Care Technicians, this position is responsible for the daily maintenance and husbandry of large and small mammals in the South East Asia area; animal diets/food preparation and feeding; exhibit/holding cleaning and general maintenance; animal health observations; medical treatments; record keeping; public demonstrations and education interpretation with and without animals; other duties as assigned. This position allows a limited amount of animal interaction. Other duties as assigned.


Must be a high school graduate 

Must be at least 18 years old 

College experience in biological sciences desirable 

Previous animal husbandry experience preferred but not required 

Must be able to communicate effectively and follow written & oral instructions 

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays


Current valid first-aid and CPR cards desired. 

Employment is subject to a Washington State Patrol background inquiry pursuant to RCW 43.43.832. 

Lifting and carrying heavy objects or animals weighing up to 50 pounds; pushing; climbing; walking; kneeling and crouching to work with and feed animals; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and tools.
