The Technical Marketing Manager for Heroku is a first key hire for the Technical Marketing function. This role owns the development of all technical marketing value propositions, technical sales tools, and technical marketing go-to-market tactics for the Heroku platform. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit since a strong premium will be placed on the candidate’s ability and experience taking initiative -- crafting and developing compelling technical messages and tools (presentations, playbooks, competitive analysis, and product demonstrations, roi calculations) -- in support of the pre-sales teams.
Outbound
The Technical Marketing function owns the key, supporting, technical collateral and methodology to accelerate technical sales of Heroku products and solutions in companies of all sizes by removing technical objections (using messaging, tools and tactics), demonstrating the technical value of Heroku and winning the technical sale.
Inbound
The Technical Marketing Manager for Heroku will lead the day-to-day operations for enabling technical sales counterparts within Heroku and our channel including Salesforce.com. You will work with the Field Organization to gather and prioritize the delivery of technical content to the field and customers. You will create technical campaigns and use marketing automation to track success and areas of improvement in campaign execution, including improvements and updates to technical marketing content, demos and best practices that capture and convert customers. Conversion helps customers and partners to build and optimize their applications and offerings on Heroku.
You will work with the marketing organization at large (developer, partner, product, campaign marketing, etc.,) to understand, prioritize and execute on the technical marketing needs of the market. You will work with various channels, including digital agencies, development houses, system integrators and ISVs to incorporate their products into customer demos, blueprints and templates for application architectures.
You will oversee the Technical Marketing Lab and curate the work product of that lab for your internal and external customers. You will manage the hands-on work of your team and the library of content, training curriculums, certification & validation processes as part of the technical solution development process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand the customer need and establish company's product as the best solution that addresses that need.
Build and present customized demos
Present companies technology infrastructure, including demonstrating deep familiarity with companies hardware, software, networking and security stack
Participate in all appropriate product, sales, and procedural training and certification to acquire and maintain the knowledge necessary to be effective in the position
Attain quarterly and annual objectives assigned by management
Respond effectively to RFPs when needed
Create and document technical marketing process for Heroku
Curate and update content to maintain its effectiveness
Run internal technical marketing efforts including marketing automation
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS
At least 5 years experience in professional services, consulting, technical marketing, field engineering or technical training with experience architecting ISV implementations and rolling out new technologies.
B.S. Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent work experience is desired. Previous experience as a sales engineer for an ISV or similar technology will make you a more desirable candidate. Knowledge of related applications and web technology and basic programming experience in HTML and other web based technologies is desired. Ability to work as part of a team to solve technical problems in varied organizational structures is important. No more than 30% travel internationally and domestically.
Experience implementing and architecting at least one of the following application areas:
JEE Architectures - 3-tier web applications and web services
Other Application Architectures – Salesforce.com, Open Web Applications
Cloud Technologies – AWS, Azure, Google App Exchange, BlueBox, Rackspace
Detail oriented with good organizational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
