NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 1 year and 1 day). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration. Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition.

This position is located in the Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention division at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. The Center’s mission is to improve the healthcare of Veterans through conducting research, clinical trials, and educational events that reduce rates of suicide and associated outcomes.

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Participating in varied phases of the Center’s research and development processes;

Providing project management and communications support in the administrative, analytical, technical, planning, and reporting activities to the Core Chief or designee;

Maintaining contact with partnering agencies such as DoD, CDC, State Departments and other state and federal entities;

Managing daily communications for assigned CoE projects, including routine communications with principal investigators and research support staff;

Coordinating routine program activities, such as tracking costs and developing reports, and assigned projects;;

Planning, coordinating and carrying out data collection during the conduct of research and evaluation projects, demonstration projects, and education projects;

Reviewing and evaluating existing data collection procedures that have been previously structured by others;

Planning, organizing, and implementing data collection with both staff and external agencies during the conduction of research and evaluations projects, healthcare demonstration projects, and education projects; and

Performing other related duties, as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM.

Basic Requirement for GS-601 series: All qualified applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in a major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position, such as Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Mental Health. In addition to the Basic Requirement above, to qualify at the GS-09 level you must also meet one of the following requirements:

Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include experience coordinating the administration and data collection efforts of a health research and/or evaluation project; Experience working with other agencies/organizations in the collection of statistical research data; Demonstrated familiarity with the operations of mental health, the issues involved in healthcare service delivery, and characteristics of populations that affect their utilization of services; Experience implementing the data collection and monitoring protocols for health research and/or evaluation projects and studies; Extensive experience using computer programs, specifically with spreadsheets to perform data tracking, to compile information, and prepare reports; and Proven skill in effective oral and written communications. This experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in Federal service. ~OR~

Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of progressively higher level related graduate education leading to a Master's degree or Master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university. This education must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Unofficial transcripts are required with your application. ~OR~

Combination: Equivalent combinations of related graduate level education and specialized experience. This education and experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work. Unofficial transcripts are required with your application.

A Quality Ranking Factor* has been requested by the facility to help determine which of the basically qualified applicants are likely to be better qualified for this position at the GS-09 level.

The quality ranking factor for this position is: "Experience coordinating multi-site data collection efforts for a research and/or evaluation project that includes working with outside organizations, such as State and Federal partners to collect vital statistical data" .

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary. The employee sits comfortably to perform the work. These is some standing, walking, bending, and carrying light items like paper of books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work of this position.

Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and

Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
