The Service Coordinator meets all requirements of the Sterile Processing Technician levels I, II and III job skills. The coordinator demonstrates expertise of sterile processing knowledge and application of American Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. The coordinator has recognized leadership qualities and responsibilities which include mentoring levels I, II and III technicians, providing educational inservicing, and functioning in the charge role. The coordinator is responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for quality assessment and improvement, identifying opportunities and proactively working to continuously improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with goals of Baystate Health. The coordinator is knowledgeable of hospital policies and protocols of regulatory bodies such as: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Public Health (DPH), Joint Commission (JC), AAMI and Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) as they pertain to sterile processing.
This description covers the essential functions of the position. Incumbent is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Management has the right to change or add to the job responsibilities at any time.
High School diploma or GED required . Associates Degree or higher preferred. 3-5 years experience working in a Sterile Processing Department with knowledge of operating room and instrumentation CSPD (Certified Board of Sterile Processing) or IAHCSMM (International Association Healthcare Service Material Management) certification required. If not currently certified, must have within one year of employment at Baystate. Proficient in computer skills, medical terminology and understanding anatomy and physiology. Expert skill level in sterilization techniques, decontamination, high level disinfection, instrument tray assembly, case cart preparation and demonstrated communication and leadership skills.
