This position is responsible for technical ownership of a plants operations and is responsible for a variety of tasks that include:
1. Providing the technical and engineering focus to the Process Development Groups (PDG) priorities.
2. Development, analysis, interpretation, and utilization of data and information during project inception, and execution.
3. Day-to-day management of operations in assigned production or support area to include production, safety, environment, budget management, quality.
4. This position will also be responsible for mentoring, coaching and developing team members - which could include technicians as well as new engineers, coops and interns. Roles and responsibilities will vary based on team needs.
Perform engineering activities at respective location to address best practice gaps and execute on projects.
Develop expertise of department equipment and systems.
Identify and address methods to improve equipment and system efficiency, performance and reliability.
Become expert in specific areas and unit operations, and ensure knowledge is transferred appropriately.
Assist other business functions in developing business cases for becoming best-in-class in various areas.
Manage people, process and inputs and products in a plant environment.
Involved in the day-to-day supervision and development of Technicians in their production activities.
Responsible for staffing, motivating and handling employee relations issues.
Maintain involvement with and understanding of breakthrough technologies.
Assist and support R&D efforts via trials including eventual implementation of concepts.
Understand key measures, including costs, chemical usage, energy, yields and standardized engineering and construction requirements and ensure they are addressed during project execution.
Maintain customer relations by ensuring product quality specifications are met.
Interface with customers on plant visits and audits.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biosystems or a related Engineering discipline, or a minimum of 5 years production management or engineering experience.
3 years production management or engineering experience.
1 year experience leading teams, contractors, or directly supervising.
General knowledge of production management with ability to develop understanding of plant processes and operational needs.
High levels of organization, communication and documentation skills required to be successful.
Working knowledge of Food Safety, OSHA, and Environmental regulations.
Awareness level knowledge of contracting strategies (stipulated sum, EPSA, T&M, etc).
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience.
Demonstrated experience with commitments for fund requests
Previous exposure to project management (capital/expense jobs)
Demonstrated knowledge of one or more core processes (i.e. power and steam generation, waste water treatment, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc).
Demonstrated project controls skills, including scope and budget managements as well as schedule development and execution.
Working knowledge of accounting system with ability to enter requisitions, jobs and work orders.
Demonstrated understanding of several of the key chemical processing unit operations such as evaporators, heat exchange, ion exchange, drying etc.
Basic awareness of energy pinch analysis, food safety, AE&I, GMP, ASME, B31.3 piping design, API 650 tank construction, Management of Change, NFPA, and NEC.
Understanding of basic reliability concepts.
